1. A Hunter Classic for the 1’9 / 2’3 / 2’6 – $50 entry fee, $500 in prize money – pays to 5th. We will need 12 to run, and if we get 15+ the prize money will jump to $750 ✨ Designed with green horses and riders in mind! Running after the core divisions on Sunday.
2. A Hunter Derby for 2’3 / 2’6 / 2’9 / 3’ – $65 entry fee, $750 in prize money – pays to 5th. We will need 12 to run, and if we get 15+ the prize money will jump to $1000 ✨ Running after the core divisions on Saturday.
3. A mini prix for our jumpers – .75M / .90M / 1M – $65 entry fee, $750 in prize money – pays to 5th. We will need 12 to run, and if we get 15+ the prize money will jump to $1000 ✨ Running after the core divisions on Sunday.

Show Season Is Here! Jokers Hill Indoor Show Information Enclosed.

It’s hard to believe 2024 show season is upon us! We are less than three weeks away from sending the first horse of the year down the chute into the show ring.

Jokers Hill Horse Shows is the first show of the year, hosted indoors at The Royal Canadian Riding Academy (RCRA). Split up over two weekends, please check the schedules attached below to ensure you are planning on the right weekend for your divisions.

Entries for both weeks are LIVE on horseshowsonline.com – click “upcoming shows” and scroll down until you see the week that fits with your divisions, and submit your entries online.

EVENT: THJA x Ontario Equestrian Coaching Info Session

Do you have questions about coach status and licensing for this year?

THJA is pleased to have partnered with Ontario Equestrian to provide a FREE information session for all THJA members before the start of the 2024 show season. Representatives from OE will be available to answer all your coaching questions – or any other question about Ontario Equestrian.

EVENT: Special Meeting of Members

One of the Trillium benefits is the opportunity for members to have a say in the leadership of their respective zones. Directors at Large are elected to represent the interests of our members, and may go on to hold Executive positions within the CEZ Board or higher up to the THJA Board.

All CENTRAL EAST membership holders are eligible to attend and vote. Proxy forms are available on our website for those who may not attend the meeting but wish to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf. Members under 18 may have a parent/guardian act as their proxy. Please send completed proxy forms to cezthja@gmail.com by 7pm, April 6th.

At this meeting, we will be able to answer questions pertaining to 2024 fees, membership requirements, TIP requirements. As always, please forward any questions to our social media or directly to our Vice President at cezthja@gmail.com.

Role Descriptions:

President & Chair of the Board – The President & Chair of the Board shall be a Director and shall, when present, preside at all meetings of the Board, of the executive committee (if any), and of the Members. The Chair is required to sit on the THJA Board in addition to the CEZ Board. The Chair is responsible for ensuring information is communicated from the THJA meetings to the CEZ Board either in writing, or as a President’s Update at the next CEZ Board meeting following a THJA meeting. The Chair shall have such other duties and powers as the Board may specify.

    Secretary – The Secretary shall attend and be the secretary of all meetings of the Board, Members, and committees of the Board, or shall delegate such responsibility and oversee the completion of such responsibility. The Secretary shall enter or cause to be entered in the Corporation’s minute book, minutes of all proceedings at such meetings. The Secretary shall give, or cause to be given, as and when instructed, meeting notices to Members, Directors, the auditor, and members of committees. The Secretary shall be the custodian of all books, papers, records, documents and other instruments belonging to the Corporation. The Secretary shall ensure any notices from members or other stakeholders are relayed in a timely manner to the rest of the Board. The Secretary shall provide organized meeting minutes to the person(s) responsible for posting to the CEZ website. The Secretary shall have such other duties and powers as the Board may specify.

    Treasurer – The treasurer shall be responsible for managing all financial obligations of the Zone. The Treasurer shall maintain a system for expenses and reimbursements, as applicable, ensuring accurate and complete recording of all transactions. The Treasurer shall provide the following at the Annual General Meeting: Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Total Balance (B). The Treasurer shall prepare a report on AP, AR, B and any other accounts for each Board meeting. The Treasurer shall have such duties and powers as the Board may specify.

    2023 Board of Directors

    President – Ken Denouden

    With over 40 years of experience in the equine industry as a show manager, trainer, board member and leader, Ken brings a wealth of knowledge of the Ontario equine industry. Ken is the current THJA President. 

    Vice President – Lucy Gilbert

    Lucy has been a competitor, board member and show staff on the CEZ since x. Lucy was elected into the Vice President role in 2022 on an interim term, and re-elected in 2023 for her first full term.

    Treasurer – Amanda Schickedanz

    Amanda has been a member of the CEZ BOD since 2021. As a facility owner and manager, show manager and coach, Amanda has a diverse portfolio of equine experience that she brings to the board. Amanda stepped into the 2023 Treasurer role on an interim term.

    Secretary – Maddy Ball

    Maddy has been the CEZ BOD Secretary since 2022. Maddy has been a THJA competitor and was one of the official photographers for 2023 Trillium Championships and CEZ shows. Maddy was the chair of the 2023 CEZ Competitions Committee and sat on multiple other CEZ committees.

    Rachel Czapka – Rachel has many years of competitive equestrian experience. Rachel runs a successful business in Uxbridge and sits on multiple BODs. Rachel joined the board as a Director in 2023 and sat on multiple CEZ committees.

    Julia Bialy – Julia joined the board as a Director in 2023, and was a member of many CEZ committees.

    Emily Williams – Emily joined the board as a Director in 2023, was the 2023 CEZ Marketing Committee Chair and sat on multiple other CEZ committees.

    Aeden Maclean – Aeden joined the board as a Director in 2023, and was the 2023 CEZ Banquet Committee Chair.

    Meghan Hannan – Meghan joined the board as a Director in 2023, and was a member of multiple CEZ committees.

    Stephanie Pennycook – Stephanie joined the Board as a Director in 2023.

        2024 Show Season Information: Coaching Requirements

        Heads up Trillium coaches! Please see below for the EC Coach Status Requirements for 2024.

        Canadian coaches must hold a minimum Licenced EC Coach Status to coach at an EC sanctioned competition.

        Athletes must either indicate the name and Sport License Number of their coach on the entry form or they may declare themselves to be Self-Coached by entering their own name and EC Sport Licence in the fields made available on the entry form.

        Registered coaches, coaches listed as “Pending”, “Expired”, or with no status must purchase Temporary Coach Status.

        Temporary Coach Status purchases are DIGITAL and must be purchased at https://licence.equestrian.ca/myec/login. They are no longer able to be purchased through the individual horse show offices.

        CEZ 2024 Announces Partnership with Thoroughbred Incentive Program

        We are excited to announce a new partnership with The Jockey Club’s Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP) for the 2024 Show Season. From the first T.I.P. event at Red Hills International Horse Trial in Florida on March 8, 2012 through the end of 2021, there were more than 7,900 horse shows and events with T.I.P. classes or awards held in 50 states and Canadian provinces. More than 66,000 eligible Thoroughbreds participated in these shows and events, competing for thousands of ribbons, hundreds of prizes and thousands of dollars in prize money simply for being a registered Thoroughbred.

        For riders showing on the 2024 amalgamated “Central Zone”, there are 5 awards at EVERY SHOW on the Central Zone this summer (Two Stride Show Management @ Essa, RCRA and Jokers Hill @ RCRA).

        1. High Point HUNTER TB – High (2’6 and above)
        2. High Point HUNTER TB – Low (Under 2’6)
        3. High Point JUMPER TB
        4. Green High Point TB (All Divisions/Disciplines)
        5. Junior Rider High Point TB
        • The Jockey Club T.I.P. High Point Thoroughbred – High and Low Hunter Awards will be given to the Hunter Thoroughbred at the horse show accumulating the most points toward the award in Hunter classes at the stated height. A high point ribbon will be provided for each award. There will be one (1) winner in the HIGH section and one (1) winner in the LOW section at each Central Zone show.
        • The Jockey Club T.I.P. High Point Thoroughbred Jumper Award will be given to the Jumper Thoroughbred at the horse show accumulating the most points toward the award in Jumper classes. A high point ribbon will be provided for each award.
        • The Jockey Club T.I.P. Green OTTB High Point Award will be given to the highest placing Thoroughbred at the competition (regardless of discipline/division) that raced within the past two years. It is the responsibility of the owner/rider to provide the show with the horse’s last race date. The last race date is also printed on the T.I.P. Number card. A neck sash will be provided for the highest placing Thoroughbred at each show meeting the criteria.
        • The Jockey Club T.I.P. Junior Rider High Point Award will be given to the Thoroughbred/rider combination accumulating the most points where the rider is 18 years old or younger. A high point ribbon and medal will be provided to the winning horse and rider.

        At the annual CEZ Banquet, the overall High Point Winner of each award will be awarded with a SERIES CHAMPION award.
