Central East Zone is proud to introduce for 2019 the CWD CE TRILLIUM HUNTER DERBY SERIES
Offered at the following horse shows: May JHHS, June JHHS, June PHC and TAP.
2’6 derby height open to division entries in Hi/Lo Hunter Development, Children’s Training Hunter and Adult Amateur Training Hunter.

This class showcases the high performance capabilities of horse and rider through challenging courses that require boldness and athleticism. Tests include natural obstacles and interesting jumps with variation in construction. Judging will reward handiness, jumping style, manners, way of going and smoothness. There will be no adjustment of striding for ponies. This class will run over 2 rounds, with open combined scoring.
First Round: Hunter course with a minimum of 10 fences. Second Round: Top 12 scores will return for a handy round with high options offering 5 bonus points each.
Horses must compete in a minimum of 3 out of 4 derbies in order to qualify for overall standings. Ribbons will be awarded to 10th place for each individual CE derby, and standings for the series will be posted on the Central East website. The derby series finale will take place at the Trillium at Palgrave horse show in July. At the completion of the finale derby, year end placings will be tabulated to determine the top 1st – 10th place combinations of 2019. The top horse in the series will receive a $500 bonus and cooler generously provided by CWD Sellier!
Thank you to everyone who completed our surveys following banquet. Summaries of the responses for both surveys are available below.
Many responses asked for more hunter derbies. Just announced at the AGM, Joker’s Hill and Pickering Horse Centre are joining forces to run a 4 show derby series at the May and June Joker’s Hill Shows, the June show at PHC, and Trillium at Palgrave. Competitors must participate in 3/4 shows to qualify for overall awards at Trillium at Palgrave. More information to come both barns websites.
Save the date. Our AGM will be on Sunday, February 10 at 2:30 PM at the Greenwood Community Centre.
All voting members (adults with active memberships), trainers and parents who are interested in advocating for their young riders please attend! We are asking for a minimum of 1 CE member from each barn to attend. This way all barns participating in Central East horse shows in 2019 can stay more informed of protocols and changes to our circuit. Reminder that voting is only a small part of the AGM. We welcome non members to join to participate in the discussion, ask questions and share their thoughts.
New this year we will be holding a panel discussion before the AGM with speakers discussing championships, memberships and entries, show management and best practices, prize lists, and the banquet. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask any questions they have on these topics.
Vice President, Treasurer and one Director position are open for re-election.

Central East Zone would like to thank Christine Reupke for once again taking on the huge task of coordinating the return of last year’s trophies. If you received a trophy at our 2017 Banquet, please return them to the office at one of the two August shows at RCRA or to the show office at Zone Classic. New this year – If your trophy is not returned by Zone Classic they will then be due by Championships but you will incur a $50 fine. If your trophy is not returned by Championships, the fine will be increased to $100. It is very important that trophies are returned on time, to ensure that the Banquet Committee has the necessary time to take care of any repairs or replacements to the trophies.
